CNN reports on the fireball that fell during a marathon in Austin, Texas. Sparks were still coming from it at tree level, so I would guess that it hit the ground! 
There are actually two objects not one.

A video has been released showing a howling fireball streaking through the sky above America’s midwest late last night. The US National Weather Service has confirmed the light was a meteorite.
